Tyne & Wear Fire chiefs have agreed to cuts that will see the loss of any fire station in Wallsend.
The decision to close the latest Wallsend Fire Station, which was only opened in 1989 to replace the Fire station on Lawson street,Wallsend, comes as Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service faces making cuts of over £5 million pounds.
Emergencies currently covered by the current and fairly modern Fire station on Hadrian Road near Willington Quay in Wallsend will eventually covered by a new station to be built in Longbenton, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Tyne & Wear Chief Fire Officer Tom Capeling is quoted as saying
The proposals will be introduced in a safe and progressive manner to ensure we are not endangering anyone’s lives.]
