Sting has been recommended to receive the Honorary Freedom of the Borough Of North Tyneside.
Possibly Wallsends Most Famous son, Rock legend Sting aka Gordon Sumner the son of a milkman who was born and brought up in Wallsend was recently nominated by Councillor M T Glindon.
I would like to nominate Gordon Matthew Sumner, better known as Sting, for the Freedom of the Borough of North Tyneside. I believe he is one of the most famous living sons of Wallsend, as he is known across the world as a musician, song-writer and actor and for supporting environmental and human rights groups. Sting was born in Wallsend in 1951 and his brother, Philip, still runs the family milk-round business in the town.
Sting was recently quoted as saying about the people in his home town
People know where I’ve come from. To them I’m just Gordon from Wallsend. My brother and sister still live here, my brother delivers the milk like my dad did and my sister runs Newcastle airport.
He was nominated along with Girlguiding North Tyneside who currently have 2,300 members.
