balletLORENT has been in touch to announce details of a new work, The Night Ball, which will premier at the Memorial Hall (MEM), Wallsend on the 11th and 12th July 2013.
What’s more the company are looking for local volunteers (no dance experience required!) who can dedicate a little bit of time to learn some ballroom moves and feature in the show… ( send an email to gemma@balletlorent.com )
Those taking part in the workshops will then be the first people to join the professional dancers as the performance comes to end before the night evolves into an open floor.
balletLORENT is a very proud resident of the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne and is thrilled to be celebrating it’s 20th anniversary with an exciting, performance and participatory event which will be made and premiered on Tyneside before embarking on a national tour and follows the dance company’s successful recent tour of Rapunzel.
Liv Lorent has created something very different to entertain and involve her audience. A totally unique and interactive event, The Night Ball celebrates the joy of social dancing and creates an environment where the beauty of losing yourself to movement and music becomes the privilege of everyone in the room.
Passionate couple dances, wallflower solos and exuberant ensemble dancing influenced by countless movement styles will feature in this 70 minute show which is set in the round with cabaret seating.
The evening continues as the dance floor and bar remain open and the DJ plays on, giving the audience the chance to throw their own moves as well as the rare opportunity to be partnered by one of balletLORENT’s ten professional dancers.
As part of the project, the company will also be working with communities local to Wallsend, giving audience members the chance to star in cameo roles. The dancers will lead pre-performance workshops, teaching steps from couple dances featured in the show.
