Charlton Court Care Home on Bristol Drive in Battle Hill, Wallsend & St Peter’s Court care home on Church Bank Road, Wallsend are both effected by the closure of Southern Cross.
Concern has been growing since Southern Cross decided the care homes would be handed back to the control of their landlords.
However, North Tyneside Council has reassured the public in a press release that there is no need for panic over the Southern Cross announcement after a meeting of the Council’s Cabinet confirmed that this will not have any impact on the day to day operation of the care homes in North Tyneside which of course includes the two care homes in Wallsend.
Head of Adult Social Care, Jacqui Old said at the meeting that “The impact of the announcement is that homes will now, over a period of weeks and months, revert to their landlords who will either operate them themselves or appoint new providers to deliver care services.
The Mayor, Mrs Linda Arkley also tried to reassure those affected by the announcement that the Council will write to residents, relatives and carers once they have confirmation of the transfer of the running of the care homes.
