Work that began in 2016 to create a state of the art new multi layer junction at the Wallsend section of the Coast Road has reached it’s final phase.
The construction allows better access to both the Wallsend Silverlink retail park and those heading North & South on the A19 leading to and from the Tyne Tunnel crossing in East Howdon.
The reported £75 million pound scheme in Wallsend, North Tyneside, was carried out by Highways England, who say the new triple-decker junction will improve traffic flow on what is one of the busiest routes in the region.
The planners stated aim was to improve road safety and relieve the heavy congestion caused by over 69,000 vehicles passing through the junction each day.
Speed restriction are still being enforced on the 1058 Coast Rd running from Wallsend up through to North Shields.
