Campaign To Save Wallsend Shops

A campaign entitled Save Our Shops has been started on Facebook led by business people and residents in Wallsend and the surrounding areas who are adversely affected by the closure of the CO-OP department store in the Wallsend Forum shopping centre.

Retail giant Morrisons are in discussions to replace the old co-op superstore which closed over 18 months ago, however, campaigners fear they are ready to pull out of any proposed move because another retail giant is intending to open a new food superstore just a few miles away in Byker.

Campaigners also say that despite over 3,000 signatures and several  attempts to ask those who govern the town centre to attend a public meeting, non have been forthcoming and that time may now be running out to persuade Morrisons to go ahead with their plans.

Many local shoppers have voiced concerns that many of the larger retail stores seem to prefer to position themselves at the nearby Silverlink Retail Park, a few miles away from the actual town centre of Wallsend.

I stopped comming to Wallsend Forum 4 weeks ago.
Despite the growing number of empty shops I feel strongly that independant shops should be supported.
BUT you know what ? I will never visit The Forum again after witnessing WHEEL CLAMPERS in operation.
    Disgusting
